One of many oldest Christian liturgical books is predicted to promote for greater than $2.6 million at an public sale in London.
The Crosby-Schøyen Codex was written on Egyptian papyrus from round 250-350 A.D., and produced in one of many first monasteries.
“It is proper at that interval, that transitional interval, when papyrus scroll begins turning into codex type,” Eugenio Donadoni, Christie’s Senior Specialist, Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts, informed Reuters. “So, books as we all know them as we speak. In line with public sale home, Christie’s New York, the guide is predicted to fetch between $2.6 million to $3.8 million.

One scribe wrote 104 pages, with 52 leaves, over a interval of 40 years.

The guide was finally found within the Nineteen Fifties.
It was acquired by the College of Mississippi till 1981, when it was purchased by Dr. Martin Schoyen, a manuscript collector, in 1988.

The codex is on view at Christie’s New York, April 2-9, and might be auctioned in London on June 11.
